Visual Art Homework

Visual Art Homework

Visual Art is a skill and just like any other skill it must be practiced. Practice will build student's physical muscles in their hands, their hand eye coordination as well as their mental muscles such as creativity and observation. While I am not necessarily too concerned about the actual time, I am more concerned with the students making it a habit to practice their art skills every day.

These art skills could be drawing, collecting images they like from magazines, the internet, drawing digitally, painting, coloring, doodling, journaling, looking at art they like and writing about it in their sketchbook, researching art history or art they like and writing about it in their sketchbook, collaging the front of their sketchbook - there are really endless possibilities as long as they are doing something artistic and documenting it.

In order to improve their artistic skills students are required to practice their art skills 15 minutes daily in a sketchbook.

  • Suggested content - still life, landscapes, and portraits -comics, and anime are permitted but students should work towards creating their own characters not just copying others' work.
  • Students should also be collecting imagery and items in their sketchbooks that they find interesting, following artists they like on social media, and watching YouTube demonstration videos.
  • Students may also journal and write down ideas in their sketchbooks.
  • Students can even work on one drawing or artwork for the entire week.
  • Students will upload a weekly summary of their work on Schoology, this can be done as a series of pictures uploaded or a video uploaded showing their work.
