Our School

Nashville's Only Arts Middle Magnet School

An Optional School

Opened in Fall 2006, Isaiah T. Creswell Middle Magnet School of the Visual & Performing Arts serves a diverse population of middle-school students, from acrosspainting Nashville, with a passion for the arts. Through our arts magnet program, we offer a wide and varied selection of arts courses, which include Dance, Theater, Visual Arts, General Music, Playwriting, Chorus, Photography, Keyboard, Studio Recording, Guitar, and Band.

In addition to our arts-based curriculum, Creswell offers rigorous standards in academics, with honors classes in every general education subject. We also offer Encore, the district's gifted learning program. Creswell is also one of just a few middle schools to have a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. English learners also thrive at Creswell, where they are offered an environment in which they can gain proficiency in English.

Creswell's Exceptional Education teachers offer individualized instruction and assistance to students identified as having particular needs which cannot be met in a day-to-day academic setting. These needs may be academic, physical, social, and/or emotional.

Creswell has earned the attention of the local community and was recently awarded grants from VH1 for a piano keyboard lab and from the Country Music Association (CMA) for both musical instruments and our theater sound system. We also are proud to have our school theater named in honor of Nashville's former Mayor Bill Purcell for his contributions to education and Music City, USA.
