Strings Skills and Techniques

The String Conservatory offers a structured and supportive environment where students grow as musicians and collaborators. Each class includes warm-ups, scale and rhythm practice, sectionals, and full ensemble rehearsal, with a focus on tone, intonation, balance, and expression.

Students work toward performances while also participating in creative projects such as small ensembles, basic composition or arranging, and guided listening activities. Throughout the program, students build strong technique, music-reading skills, ensemble awareness, confidence, and essential habits such as goal-setting, problem-solving, and teamwork.

Building 21st Century Skills

This conservatory supports student growth by fostering a positive environment that values effort, consistency, and progress. Through regular practice, goal setting, and performance opportunities, students build confidence and learn to perform with courage as they see their skills improve. The structured rehearsal process develops discipline, time management, focus, and perseverance, which directly support academic success. Collaboration and creative projects encourage teamwork, leadership, accountability, and self-expression while strengthening critical thinking and reflective learning skills. 

Supporting Academic Growth

Arts and academics are intentionally integrated in the conservatory, allowing students to apply classroom learning directly to their musical work. Students use reading and writing skills to interpret music, reflect on rehearsals, set goals, and explain musical choices. Math and science concepts are reinforced through rhythm, meter, tempo, form, and the study of sound, vibration, and tone production. Through musical analysis, problem-solving, and performance projects, students develop critical thinking while seeing clear connections between academic learning and artistic expression. 

Performances and Showcases

Students have many opportunities throughout the year to perform, create, and share their work in meaningful ways. The conservatory includes formal concerts each semester, as well as school events, assemblies, and community performances that build confidence and stage presence. Students also participate in small ensemble and chamber projects, along with creative composition or arranging activities shared through recordings, peer performances, or reflections. Collaborative projects with other arts or academic classes allow students to connect music to broader learning while regularly celebrating their growth and progress.
